Hiscall recently implemented facial recognition at our corporate office. Facial recognition is a biometric software application that captures an image and uses it to identify individuals by applying facial analysis and comparing to an existing database. The application maps an individual’s facial contours and features mathematically and stores the data as a faceprint. It then compares a live capture or digital image to the stored faceprint in order to verify an individual’s identity.

Facial recognition systems are commonly used for security purposes, especially in surveillance. Even with security threats a growing concern at national and international levels, facial recognition often elicits emotional responses in support or against its use. However, a recent survey by the Center for Data Innovation reveals Americans are warming up to the technology. According to the survey, only about one in four Americans (26%) want government to strictly limit the use of facial recognition technology.

The global facial recognition market is expected to reach 8.93 Billion dollars by 2022.

NEC is a recognized leader in facial recognition technology. NEC facial recognition algorithm is the consistent top performer in testing by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), which is part of the U.S. Department of Commerce. NEC’s facial recognition technology provides the fastest, most accurate matching capability and is the most resistant to variants in aging, race, and pose angle.

NEC’s NeoFace identifies the faces of moving subjects in real-time as they walk naturally without stopping in front of a camera. Capturing real-time images from standard cameras for face recognition requires highly-advanced techniques. To achieve reliable face recognition of a video, NEC developed feature point extraction technology that enables enhanced face recognition to a level where an individual can be identified with high precision from within a group, even if their face is partially hidden, or the image is taken from different angles. NEC’s NeoFace also uses deep learning technologies for face matching to increase accuracy.

Integrated with NeoFace, NEC’s Front Desk Assistant application provides an intuitive easy to use interface that transforms a visitor’s experience checking in/out workflow process of your business. Using NEC facial recognition, Front Desk Assistant streamlines and speeds up the check-in/out process for returning visitors, photographs and prints appropriate visitor badges, alerts/notifies employees of visitor arrival, and logs historical data of your daily visitors.

Hiscall is one of NEC’s Double Diamond Dealers. With a successful history of partnership, Hiscall was selected as a beta site for testing NEC NeoFace with Front Desk Assistant. The combined solutions were implemented at our corporate office to better manage guest check-in/check-out. Hiscall’s President/CEO is excited about the performance and accuracy of the applications and the opportunities to further expand the integrations with other systems.
